Smashbox Pink Power Eye and Lip Kit

I am a sucker for makeup palettes. Throw 3, 5, even 10 shades of anything into a compact and even if I'd never buy them individually, I take one look at it and feel that I must purchase it. Well, Smashbox has created an adorable set of two palettes for their Breast Cancer Awareness promotion this year, and by golly I want it! The eye palette colors look very pretty; I like the idea of pink and olive green together though I haven't tried the look myself. I'm a bit more skeptical about the lip palette. I never seem to use them as much. But, according to the avid reviewers on Sephora.com the colors in both palettes are very wearable and universally flattering. Good to know!

To make it even harder for me to resist, Smashbox is donating to a real cool organization. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Young Survival Coalition, an international nonprofit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women with breast cancer. Now that is a great way to get pretty... and add to my overflowing collection of pallets.

Origins Peace of Mind On-the-spot Relief for Breast Cancer

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Origins is donating $35,000 in connection to sales of its Peace of Mind On-the-spot relief. Part of their Sensory Therapy collection, this stuff is awesome. I was lucky enough (read: not lucky at all) to have a Monday tension headache brewing behind my eyes when this came in the mail. I dabbed a bit on my temples, right between my eyebrows and on the back of my neck. Seconds later I could feel the cooling, soothing sensation of basil, eucalyptus, and peppermint calming me down. Minutes later, I felt more relaxed and the throbbing had certainly died down. A nice, natural fix for a headache, and fast acting. For $10, you can pick it up at an Origins store or select departments stores as well. And it comes in a pink ribbon box this month only!

YSL's Golden Gloss No. 27 Shimmer Lip Gloss Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness

This October, YSL is supporting the on-going search for a cure for breast cancer with one of their fabulous lip glosses. When you buy their Golden Gloss No. 27 30% of the sale price will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund.

The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund (NBCCF) works to end breast cancer by increasing federal funding for research, making sure all low income and uninsured women have access to care, and educating and empowering advocates to play an active role everywhere breast cancer decisions are made. Visit the official website: www.stopbreastcancer.org

This gloss is super sparkly, with mother of pearl and real gold! It is also nourishing with nigelle and cameline oils to moisturize and protect your lips. My friend swears by this lip gloss, and up until now I wasn't quite willing to drop the whole $28 to try it, but now I have a great reason. Don't you love BCA month?!

Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Liner

Need something to brighten up your look? Go a little outside your your comfort zone and add a little glitter to your life. I swear, it doesn't make you look like a drag queen. It more so looks like you don't take this makeup stuff so seriously. Have fun with Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Liners. I got spandex, a colorful glitter with a dark grey base. I draw on the liquid over my black or blue liner, since its not very dark alone. I am definitely going to try some more colors, to make some more fun, colorful looks happen.

Clarisonic Pink Ribbon Brush to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

One great product that I've been dying to try is the Clarisonic Skin Brush. It is supposed to be life-changing and actually be worth the steep price tag. ($195). If Kate Somerville promotes it, I know it must be amazing.

How does it work? Well, Clarisonic’s stimulating sonic micro-massage gently clears pores for better absorption, making other steps of the beauty regimen work better. It is also waterproof for use in the shower or tub and at the sink. It uses the same technology as the Sonicare toothbrush, which I've been a fan of for years.

Now you can also put your money to good use: since the Pink Ribbon edition of the brush did so well last year, they extended the promotion. In 2007, Clarisonic donated over $100,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This limited edition pink brush will be available through year end. So pick yours up at Sephora and other fine retailers.

Naked Bath and Body: Naked Custom Bodycare

Fun and fancy soaps and lotions are even more fun and fancy when them come from small, independent businesses. I love the idea of creating super natural, hand-made bath and body products myself. Maybe some day I will, but until then I will support those people that already have started their businesses, like Naked Bath and Body products.
Naked Body+Bath is the brainchild of three Houstonian businesswomen who are proud to offer clients their natural recipes in the forms of unique, handcrafted soaps, bath salts, scrubs, and bath bombs. Most of which are customizable as they are fragrance-free and uncolored – a blank canvas that enables clients to tailor products exactly to their individual preference or need by choosing from additions including: a vast fragrance selection, colors, and specific blends that cater to needs of individual skin types. Before any additions, ALL products are 100% natural, and even after fragrance oils and color are added, Naked adamantly sticks to a promise of 95% all natural ingredients. That is pretty cool, huh?!

Below are a few of the most distinctive features about Naked Body + Bath:

  • All products are paraben-free and sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate-free
  • Environmentally friendly ingredients and packaging
  • Soap products are all handcrafted by women
  • Absolutely no testing on animals
  • All proceeds resulting from sales of Naked’s signature “Fig-Give” soap benefit the Houston Area Women’s Center
  • Products and information available online at www.nakedbodyandbath.com
I got to try a few products from their selection, but my favorite was the the Drench Coat Lotion, a Aloe Butter and Aloe Vera Body Lotion and the Liquid Lather, a natural shea butter shower gel. I requested that these be scented with a flavor called Breakfast at Tiffanys since it sounded right up my alley! It's a beautiful pink grapefruit scent! Yum! Exactly how I like to start my day.

So check out their site, or if you are in the Houston area, go by their store! I sure would... but I don't see myself travelling anytime soon. Sniff Sniff.

Too Faced's Betsy Baby Eyeshadow Duo Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

I love when beauty products have a story behind them. The story behind this shadow is especially touching:

"Too Faced's brand founder, Jerrod Blandino, created Betsy Baby for one of his closest friends, Sephora's Betsy Olum. In 2007, the Sr. Vice President of Marketing was diagnosed with breast cancer. During Betsy's trying time, Jerrod was one of her top supporters. And, during one of their many heart-to-heart chats, Betsy jokingly asked if Jerrod would bring back her favorite discontinued Too Faced shadow, Heiress. Jerrod happily obliged, and worked with Betsy to develop the perfect highlighting-accent color. Now a fierce duo (just like Jerrod and Betsy), it's been renamed Betsy Baby in honor of her battle and triumph over breast cancer."

So, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, I went down to Sephora on Friday and picked one up! It is quite a lovely pink pair and I wish I could tell you how good they looked on, but I left it on my dresser and now I fear my kitten has knocked it off and batted it around into some dark corner of my bedroom. Hopefully I will find it and enjoy the colors, knowing how much good I did. Not only did both Betsy and Jerrod pledge to donate $3 for every shadow sold, so did Sephora, for a total of $9 out of the price of $17 being donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That is awesome. Now I just wish I could find it...

Urban Decay's Urban Essentials Collection

In celebration of Sephora's 10 year anniversary in the USA, a bunch of brands put together limited edition products and collections. I scanned the huge 2 page add in my October Allure, and knew right away what I wanted: Urban Decay's Urban Essentials: Eyeshadow set! It comes with two of their super pigmented and sparkly shadow pots: Goddess (midnight blue with lots of electric-blue microglitter) and Midnight Cowboy (subtle golden-beige with gold glitter). And the best part: a giant bottle of Primer Potion! This is the only way to get the potion in such a large bottle, which I am hoping will be a better shape for getting all the product out. I haven't yet resorted to cutting the smaller bottles open, and since this set is only $39, I don't really need to! Yay for mondo sizes and glittery shadows!

I actually wrote about Aveda's Hand Relief just over a year ago, right when I was starting out this little site of mine. Oh, memories! Ojon Pink Ribbon Revitalizing Mist

I'm so excited that Breast Cancer Awareness month has allowed me to try and LOVE a new hair product from Ojon! My hair may be fine and thin, but it still needs moisture! Sometimes, believe it or not, I rush through my shower and only after I get out and dry off do I realize that I've forgotten to condition! Eck. Well, I no longer have to worry! I can just grab my bottle the Revitalizing Mist and voila! Soft, moisturized but not weighted-down hair is in my future. It has a really pleasant smell, which I've told you before is of the utmost importance to me, and you can even use it on dry hair as a pick-me-up. Just be sure to shake it well before you use it, so that the products

Best part is, Ojon and it's parent company Estee Lauder have pledged to donate 20% of the sale of each bottle to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, up to a maximum of $35,000. The BCRF was founded by Evelyn Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinicaland transitional research. They promise that a minimum of 85 cents per every dollar donated to the foundation goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. Sounds awesome to me. Also, here are some important tips I learned reading the box it came in!:

-All Women 40 and over should get an anual ammogram and an annual clinical breast exam.
-Women 20-39 should have a clinical exam at least every two years.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

If you don't know already, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I am going to dedicate as many product reviews and articles as I can this month to products and companies that are dedicating a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer research.

Cosmetics have been promoting "pink" products for a long time. I think it is a great to bring together products that women love and an issue that effects a great number of us and our loved ones. But I advise looking at the fine print when purchasing products that promise (that's a lot of p's!) to donate proceeds from the sale to breast cancer, or any charity for that matters. Usually it is only a percentage of their profit and often there is a cap on how much they will end up actually donating. I feel like more often than not, they are legitimate and open about it but you can never been too educated about the products you are buying and what they are promoting. A great website to check out regarding this movement is ThinkBeforeYouPink.Org.

I am going to try to review and promote as many Pink products as I can this October but there are other ways you can help out the cause, like checking out the chip in widget on my left sidebar from The Beauty Blog Network. I am participating in our awesome promotion Comments for The Cure! I pledge to donate $1 for every comment I receive on any pink product reviews I do during the month of October, with a cap at $100, to the Susan G. Komen Find A Cure Foundation! So watch for my reviews on BCA products and get to posting!Comment Lovely!
